Examples of Forgery

It can be difficult for the prosecution to definitively prove a forgery case because there are several different elements which must be established. Firstly, the document or item in question must be demonstrably falsified in some way. Secondly, the prosecution must prove that the defendant is the one who falsified the document. And lastly, it must be shown that there was an associated intent to defraud through the forgery. The following are examples of forgery which may be linked to the third:

  • Signing a check from another party’s account with that party’s signature
  • Providing a falsified signature on legal documents such as a will, insurance policy, etc.
  • Altering documents without the approval of appropriate parties
