United States Border Patrol agents seized more than 232 pounds of marijuana Monday near the Santa Teresa station.

According to a report released by the United State Border Patrol at Santa Teresa, shortly before 10:00 p.m. Monday agents observed several people loading backpacks into a vehicle on Highway 9. As agents pursued the vehicle and attempted to perform a stop, the driver fled. Agents deployed a controlled tire deflation device, deflating the front tires of the vehicle and forced the driver to the side of the road. The driver then attempted to flee on foot, but agents were able to subdue the man.

A search of the Nissan Altima uncovered nine duffel bags of marijuana. Agents estimate the street value of the drugs to be around $185,600.

The marijuana and the driver were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration in Las Cruces for prosecution.
