Abandoned Houston apartment complexes attract crime

Posted on June 9th, 2010 No Comments

A series of abandoned apartment complexes in Northwest Houston have been harboring criminal activity for the past three years. The apartments are off Tidwell, only 18 minutes from downtown Houston. Residents and neighbors compare the area to living in a war zone.

While the apartments were abandoned three years ago after an investment company from California took the investor’s money, crime has gotten dramatically worse in the past year. Northwest Houston residents describe the area as being used for everything but the right thing, and so overrun with crime that the criminals no longer try to hide.

Many Houston residents are going to the city council to complain, and one state representative stated, “They need to be torn down like yesterday”.

After complaints, the city is now fighting in court in hopes of winning the right to tear the complexes down.
