Cameras responsible for crime drop in west Houston

Posted on June 14th, 2010 No Comments

In an area known for crime, west Houston people and business owners are taking action to lower crime rates by installing surveillance cameras.

The cameras are just part of an overall initiative to reduce crime in the Westchase District of Houston around Beltway 8 and Westheimer.  Many parts of Houston are seeing rises in non-violent crime, while Westchase has seen significant drops.  Non-violent crimes and break-ins have dropped by 29 percent.

A local resident stated, ” If you come to this area and you commit a crime, we’re gonna follow it through”.

In addition to surveillance cameras, the district also hired more part-time security patrols, and four part-time investigators.
