Innocent Houston man released after 18 years in prison

After 18 years,  an innocent Houston man was released from prison after officials decided that evidence was insufficient to support that he was involved in the six murders for which he was charged.  45-year old Anthony Graves was convicted of killing a Sommerville family in 1992.

The only evidence that investigators found to link Graves to the killings was another defendant’s testimony, which they later recanted.  A lawyer involved in the case said that the case was handled “in a way that would be described as a criminal justice system’s nightmare”.  She continued, “We all know there was never enough evidence to bring this man to trial”.

After his release, Graves stated, “I never lost hope.  I never lost hope.  Once you lose hope, you’re just a dead man walking.  I knew that one day it was going to come to this.  I just didn’t know it was going to be this day”.

Being charged with a crime you did not commit is scary and overwhelming.  Contact the Houston criminal defense attorneys of Johnson, Johnson & Baer P.C. at 713-523-0404 to find the justice you deserve.
