According to the National Insurance Crime Bureau, Texas had the most heavy equipment theft of any other state in 2010.  The NICB report covers the most expensive types of equipment.

In 2010, the most frequently stolen heavy equipment were bulldozers, brush chippers, backhoes, backhoes/loaders, forklifts, loaders, tractor-wheel types, tractor-track types, and excavators.  Loaders were the most frequently stolen piece of heavy equipment of all.

The NICB also listed the top cities for heavy equipment theft.  Last year, Houston had the second most heavy equipment thefts just behind Miami.  Also on this list in Texas was Conroe at number 4.

Nationwide, a total of 6,474 thefts of heavy equipment were reported in 2010.  1, 023 of these were in Texas and 121 were in Houston.
