An analysis of the FBI’s annual report on crime shows that violent crimes decreased dramatically in 2010.  Compared to 2009, violent crime in Houston was 12 percent lower last year.  Also, officials note that property crimes decreased by 4.6 percent in 2010.

Police Chief Charles McClelland described the drop in violent crime as “unprecedented” and said that crimes have continued to decrease in the first half of this year.

Violent crime was also shown to have decreased in several cities near Houston last year.  These cities include Katy, Pasadena, Humble, Santa Fe, Texas City, Pearland, League City, Bellaire, Baytown, and La Marque.  In Sugar Land, Nassau Bay, Cleveland, Missouri City, and Kemah, violent crimes increased in 2010.
