Houston hip hop artist charged with cocaine distribution

52 year-old Estell Hobbs, known as Hump in the Houston hip hop scene, has recently been charged with being a member of a cocaine distribution network that stretched from Mexico to Houston, Chicago, and Mississippi.

In the late 1990s, Hobbs operated a Houston-based record label that interested companies like Sony. He now works in construction while still remaining an active part of the Houston music scene. But prosecutors argue that Hobbs has a secret past that includes conspiring to distribute cocaine and launder money.

Law enforcement plans to seize his car and home on the allegations they were paid for with drug money and other illegal activities. Hobbs is currently free on bail and will return to court at the end of January.
