A 48-year-old Houston man has been arrested in connection with a five-car pile-up that left one dead.
The multiple-car accident occurred late Wednesday night near the Eastex Freeway service road. The man was traveling north when he sped through a red light, thus beginning the chain reaction of car accidents that claimed a passenger’s life. Two eastbound vehicles were struck, as well as two westbound vehicles.
A passenger in the first vehicle that was struck sustained serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Other drivers received minor injuries and were taken to local hospitals to be treated.
The man responsible for the fatal pile-up was believed to be driving while intoxicated and has been charged with intoxication manslaughter.
