More than 40 people have been arrested in conjunction with a check fraud ring in Houston. Other suspects continue to evade law enforcement. They are being accused of stealing rent checks and money orders from apartment complex lock boxes.

The accusations include counterfeiting these allegedly stolen checks. After this, the suspects are said to cash out the checks and money orders, sometimes hiring homeless people to conceal their identities.

The arrests come from the combined efforts of Houston Police Department, the US Immigrants and Customs Enforcement, the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, and other law enforcement agencies.

Counterfeiting, fraud, and burgalry charges are very serious accusations to be facing.
