Man accused of barricading nightclub and setting it ablaze

Jaime Mata, a 30-year-old Houston man, is being accused of barricading the entrances to La Estrella Bar and then setting the building on fire.

The fire is purportedly the result of an argument between Mata and his companion. Security camera footage shows him blocking off the doors with a chunk of a tree log.

He then purchased gasoline at a gas station across the street and returned to the rear of the building, where further security footage shows him pouring gasoline along the building and then igniting it.

Witnesses report him shouting, “This place is gonna burn,” before he left to buy the gasoline in the April 19 fire. As of last Friday, Jaime Mata is still at large.

He will be facing at least arson charges, but he could be facing attempted murder as well. If you are accused of arson, contact the Houston arson lawyers of Johnson, Johnson & Baer, P.C., at 713-523-0404.
