A 27-year old Houston man was recently linked to an incident of rape through DNA evidence.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, a sample of DNA evidence found at the scene of the crime matches a DNA sample in their database.

The crime occurred in June at around 4:30 a.m. when an elderly woman was confronted by a man hiding behind a sofa in her home and sexually assaulted.  The man left after she told him that family members would be arriving at the home shortly.

Police also say that the suspect has family who lives blocks from the home in northwest Houston where the 72-year old victim was raped.

The suspect has been charged with rape of an elderly or disabled person.

DNA leads to suspect in Harris County rape case

Harris County deputies say that DNA has led them to a suspect in the rape of a 14-year old girl that occurred 3 years ago at Cypress Springs High.  The girl told police that two men raped her behind the school.

Authorities reported that the DNA matched a DNA sample from an 18-year old man serving time in jail in another county on a burglary conviction.  With the DNA match, police will transfer the man to the Harris County Jail where he will await trial for a charge of sexual assault.

Before the DNA match, police had no suspects in the rape case.  The teen’s mother says she is certain of her son’s innocence.  She says the young man expressed interest in going to college to study business or law.
