Sources recently reported that when the so-called Twilight Rapist goes on trial in September, he will use an insanity defense.  The notion of intent to raise an insanity defense was filed after the defendant was examined by a psychiatrist.

The defendant has been charged with multiple counts of sexual assault and burglary.  Officers believe the man committed the crimes beginning 2 years ago all over Central and South Texas.  According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, DNA links the man to 6 assaults and evidence found in his home links him to 4 burglaries.

The defendant’s attorney says that be believes his client understands the charges being made against him, but knew from the beginning of his case that he was missing some mental capacity.  Doctors analyzing the man agreed that there was sufficient evidence to declare an insanity defense.
