What is an arraignment?
The arraignment is the first stage of the courtroom process. In an arraignment, a criminal defendant is brought before a judge. The defendant is then informed on the charges that have been filed against them. The defendant will be asked what he or she pleads in the case and whether or not they have or need legal representation. During the arraignment, other issues like bail and the next court date will also be set.
