A Houston deputy constable was found asleep at the wheel of his parked car on the side of the road in the 12400 block of Stonefield Manor. The off-duty officer’s son was in the car with him.

After being awoken by officers, he was taken to a nearby hospital, where blood tests showed that he was intoxicated.

Even though he was parked on the side of the road, he was charged with DWI because his motor was running. His fellow officers say that this kind of behavior is uncharacteristic for him, and his record has been described as “impeccable” by Precinct 3 Constable Ken Jones.

If you are facing DWI charges, contact the Houston DWI defense attorneys of Johnson, Johnson & Baer, P.C., at 713-222-0400.

Jaime Mata, a 30-year-old Houston man, is being accused of barricading the entrances to La Estrella Bar and then setting the building on fire.

The fire is purportedly the result of an argument Mata and his companion had with the club’s management. Security camera footage shows him blocking off the doors with a chunk of a tree log.

He then purchased gasoline at a station across the street and returned to the rear of the building, where further security footage shows him pouring gasoline along the building and then igniting it.

Witnesses report him shouting “This place is gonna burn,” before he left to buy the gasoline in the April 19 fire. As of last Friday, Jaime Mata is still at large.

He will be facing at least arson charges, but could be facing attempted murder as well. If you are accused of arson, contact the Houston arson lawyers of Johnson, Johnson & Baer, P.C., at 713-222-0400.

The city of Houston has put a plan into place that will help to give the neighborhoods in the Houston area a face lift. The city will be giving money to neighborhoods in order to help them fix up the areas and turn their neighborhoods into a place they love living.

The city has asked volunteers from each neighborhood to come forward and submit their areas into the friendly competition and they will receive backing from the city as well as a corporate sponsor.

The new program is called Love Your Block and each neighborhood that applies will receive a $500 gift card to Home Depot in order to begin to spruce up their street.

The gift card is not meant to cover all costs, but to inspire neighbors to become passionate in helping to rejuvenate their block. Many areas are wanting to plant new shrubbery and create more walkway area.

The Supreme Court has ruled in a 5-4 vote that the strip-searching can now be done on a detainee for any arrest before the person is admitted to jail.

Those in favor of the law stated that this law will allow for correctional facility employees to make sure that detainees do not have drugs, weapons or any public health information or gang history information, by allowing them to strip-search the detainee, no matter what they were arrested for.

The minority opinion on this decision has stated that it violates human rights and that strip-searching should not be allowed for minor crimes because the Fourth Amendment should prohibit these searches unless there is reasonable suspicions that the detainee has contraband on them. The new law does not make strip-searching a requirement, but it does allow it.

If you or a loved one has been arrested for a crime, you need representation that can help you through this legal process. Contact the Houston criminal defense lawyers of Johnson, Johnson & Baer, P.C., by calling 713-222-0400 today.

A Houston man has been arrested after he tried to escape from police by climbing on top of an elementary school’s roof. Police pursued the man after seeing him hold a woman in a headlock in a car near Chimney Rock and Gasmer.

When he pulled over for officers, the woman ran out of the car and towards police. She told officers that he had kidnapped her and was high on PCP. He then took off in his car, hitting another vehicle after he ran a red light. Witnesses say they saw the man run for the school after the crash.
