On September 6, a Houston man plead guilty to his part in an 11-person drug trafficking operation that took place in Nacogdoches County.

The indictment charges against the 11 individuals shows that the cocaine was received in Houston, and then distributed throughout Nacogdoches County. The Houston man connected to the operation claimed that he was involved in the distribution of the controlled substance.

Federal investigators had been following this particular case for two years before charging any people that were suspected to be involved. Three of the men that were arrested were said to use firearms when dealing with the cocaine, and their customers. The Houston man who recently entered his plea will face a minimum jail sentence of 10 years.

The rate at which bank robberies are occurring in the Houston area is on the rise. There have been 97 bank robberies so far this year, more than doubling the 41 there had been at this point last July. The record for bank robberies in Houston is 171, set in 2010.

While many people blame the harsh economic climate, it can also be argued that there are also many more banks that are open for longer hours now. People simply have more opportunity to rob banks than they did in the past.

Many bank robberies occur quickly and quietly. The people stealing from banks want to get in and out as fast as they can. However, there are numerous new security measures in place that make bank robbers easier to find and catch. Additionally, as the problem becomes more widespread, the penalties for robbing a bank are becoming harsher.

If you are being accused of robbing a bank, you are facing federal charges. You will need an experienced, determined attorney on your side to help you through the difficult trial ahead of you. Contact the criminal defense attorneys of Johnson, Johnson & Baer, P.C., at 713-222-0400 to learn more about how a lawyer can help you.

A New Zealand judge has determined that the search warrants produced for the search of Megaupload.com founder Kim Dotcom’s mansion were not valid.

The FBI and New Zealand police raided the internet mogul’s home on January 20. They seized an estimated NZ$11 million from his bank accounts, took 18 luxury cars, and procured 150TB of data they believe might include incriminating evidence.

Because of the international nature of the copyright infringement and money laundering charges against him, the warrant needed to explicitly state which country’s laws he was being accused of breaking. The judge lambasted the warrants’ vague accusations of copyright infringement in addition to the resulting investigation, states a report from Ars Technica.

Police searches and seizures need to be carried out in a very specific way to remain lawful. If you believe your rights are being infringed upon through illegal search and seizure, contact the criminal defense attorneys of Johnson, Johnson & Baer, P.C. at 713-222-0400.

Three people were killed and one was injured in a shooting that occurred in a strip club parking lot early this morning.

Witnesses claim more than 20 shots were fired in the shootout.

Houston rapper Trae the Truth was wounded in the gunfire. He is known for his work with at-risk youth, and former mayor Bill White named July 22 “Trae Day” in honor of his service to the community. He performed in a club near the strip club on the night of the incident, and the shooting occurred as people were leaving at the end of the show.

Carrying a gun on the premises of an establishment that serves alcohol is illegal. Our condolences go out to the families of those who lost their loved ones in this tragic shooting.

A 19-year-old Houston man is being accused of the shooting death of Toyurean Young, 20. Young was a member of a locally popular rap group called FDAB, Fly Den a B****.

Jordan Quentin Wilson, a former member of FDAB, is the primary suspect in the May 4 shooting that occurred outside of a McDonald’s at 10777 Beechnut. Allegedly, the two began fighting in the McDonald’s parking lot, where Wilson pulled out his gun and fired three shots, hitting Young twice. He was later pronounced dead at Ben Taub General Hospital.

Wilson, a member of a group called KREAM, Kash Rules Everything Around Me, was reportedly jealous of the success FDAB was finding. He is facing murder and weapons charges.

Police are still searching for Wilson. If you have any information about his whereabouts, contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS. Our condolences go out to Young’s family and fans.

A Houston deputy constable was found asleep at the wheel of his parked car on the side of the road in the 12400 block of Stonefield Manor. The off-duty officer’s son was in the car with him.

After being awoken by officers, he was taken to a nearby hospital, where blood tests showed that he was intoxicated.

Even though he was parked on the side of the road, he was charged with DWI because his motor was running. His fellow officers say that this kind of behavior is uncharacteristic for him, and his record has been described as “impeccable” by Precinct 3 Constable Ken Jones.

Jaime Mata, a 30-year-old Houston man, is being accused of barricading the entrances to La Estrella Bar and then setting the building on fire.

The fire is purportedly the result of an argument between Mata and his companion. Security camera footage shows him blocking off the doors with a chunk of a tree log.

He then purchased gasoline at a gas station across the street and returned to the rear of the building, where further security footage shows him pouring gasoline along the building and then igniting it.

Witnesses report him shouting, “This place is gonna burn,” before he left to buy the gasoline in the April 19 fire. As of last Friday, Jaime Mata is still at large.

He will be facing at least arson charges, but he could be facing attempted murder as well. If you are accused of arson, contact the Houston arson lawyers of Johnson, Johnson & Baer, P.C., at 713-222-0400.
